8 Choir Students Participate in TPSMEA All-State Choir

On January 24-27th, eight Concordia choir students traveled to Richardson, TX to participate in the 2024 TPSMEA (Texas Private School Music Educators Association) All-State Choir event. These students submitted audition recordings in October and made it through two rounds of auditions to ultimately earn a spot in the All-State Choir.

After the final round of judging, the students needed to be ranked in the top 25 of their individual section to be selected to All-State. Joseph Lyons ’24 earned the #2 overall Tenor 2 ranking for his first All-State selection. Also, this is the first year that Concordia had three freshmen make the All-State Choir, besting 2023’s previous school record which had two freshmen selected.

These ensembles rehearsed for two and a half days before performing concerts on Saturday in the McFarlin Center on the campus of SMU. The choir clinician this year was Dr. Peppie Calvar from Syracuse University.

The following students earned a spot in the 2024 TPSMEA All-State Choir:

  • Joseph Lyons ’24 – Tenor 2 (1st year all-stater)
  • Melissa Oblinger ‘24 – Alto 1 (3rd year all-stater)
  • Selena Lemmon ‘25 – Soprano 2 (3rd year all-stater)
  • Kendall Miller ’25 – Soprano 1 (1st year all-stater)
  • Lucas Winetrout ’26 – Tenor 1 (1st year all-stater)
  • Elijah Iwama ’27 – Bass 2 (1st year all-stater)
  • Vincent Neuhaus ’27 – Tenor 1 (1st year all-stater)
  • Amelia Schmidt ’27 – Soprano 1 (1st year all-stater)

This year’s TPSMEA All-State was a wonderful learning and fulfilling experience for our students and culminated in a series of fantastic concerts on Saturday. We are blessed to have such talented students that represented Concordia well and grew tremendously over the weekend. We are proud of you for this wonderful accomplishment!
