The last time Concordia played for a state title was 1988 and Bill Honeck was a member of the team.  Today, Bill Honeck is still a member of the Concordia Crusaders, but he now fills a different role. Coach Honeck, will lead the Concordia Crusader Boy’s basketball team onto the floor at West High school at 8:00 pm tonight, hoping to bring the school it’s second state championship.

In order to get to the game the Crusaders had to get past the TAPPS 6 time defending state champs Plano Prestonwood. After the 1st quarter the Crusaders were down 14-19.  This would be the last time they would be down in their semi-final game.  The Crusaders went on a 12-2 in the 2nd quarter to take a 26-21 lead midway through the quarter.  The Lions crept within in five points before half, but the Crusaders finished the half on a 8-4 run to go up 47-38 at half.  The 2nd half was the Crusader show.  The boys went up 16 midway through the 3rd and never looked back.  The Crusader would go on to finish the game strong and win by a score of 86-74.

District Rival, St. Pius X, stands in the way of the Crusaders’ opportunity at a second state title.  The Crusaders have beaten them the last two times they have played, but the Panthers are getting better with each game they play.  Follow on twitter for score updates or find the game on the NFHS network.
