Girls track places 4th overall
The Crusader Boys track team won their first District 3 championship last night by winning two out of the three relays. The team of Kaleb Crowder, Andrew Elder, Scott Dickerson and Karlton Covington won gold in the 4×1 and the 4×4, consisting of Andrew Elder, Collin Howard, Corbett Fong, and Cage Cavazos finished the night by beating their competition by 7 seconds. In the field portion of the meet, Jake Holland won the discus and Corbett Fong won the Long Jump by resetting his school record with a jump of 22 feet and 5 inches. In the running portion Karlton Covington won the 100m dash with a time of 11.13 seconds breaking the school record of 11.14 held by Chance Gray (class of ’12) and Collin Howard took the 400m gold by beating out his competition in the last 50 meters.
On the girl’s side, Kally Wendler was the only girl to bring home a gold, finishing first in the 800m run with a time of 2:22.62. She followed her victory up with a 2nd place finish in the 400M run and finished the night with a spectacular anchor leg running down the 3rd place team to qualify the team of Reagan Satterfield, Madelyn Rasberry and Bre Lauder in the 4×4. Kari Huwyler finished 2nd in the high jump and Maddie Koehn finished 2nd in the pole vault
The top three finishers in each event automatically qualify for state, which will be held in Waco next Friday and Saturday.
