The Concordia Lutheran Football team traveled to Hempstead last Friday to take on the Bobcats. The Bobcats struck first scoring on a 9 yard run. The Crusaders threatened to score on the very next possession but turned it over on downs, deep in Hempstead territory. After a stellar defensive stand the Crusaders got the ball back with a short field and scored on 4th and 8 with a 30 yard pass from B. Corriston to G. Dennis. Dennis broke two tackles and raced down the sideline for the TD. Hempstead scored late in the 2nd quarter to extend their lead 7-14. The Crusaders got the ball back but were forced to punt. J. Reynolds would get the ball back for the offense by intercepting a Hempstead pass. With 1:18 left in the 1st half the Crusaders put together a 6 play drive to tie the game going into halftime. K. Ross finished off the drive with a 2 yard TD run, which included a great catch by B. Hurley. The Crusaders kicked off to Hempstead after halftime and had another great defensive series. Hempstead was forced to punt. C. Howard took the punt at the 15 yard line and raced up the right side for an 85 yard TD. Concordia would score two more TD’s, one by K. Ross and the other by J.Reynolds. J. Marsh added two FG’s to make the final score 41-14 Concordia.
The Crusaders will take on 2nd Baptist in their home opener this Friday night at 7:30.
