Baseball update from this weekend’s Victoria ISD tournament

-Concordia Lutheran Crusaders Pitch Well, But Can’t Find Enough Runs In Loss To Carroll

Both teams were strong on the mound on Thursday, but Carroll was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Concordia Lutheran Crusaders on Thursday. Caleb Black started the game for Crusaders and recorded 15 outs.

A single by Ethan Harrington in the third inning was a positive for Concordia.

C. Black started the game for Concordia Lutheran. He went five innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out four. Tyler Burnett threw one inning out of the bullpen.

Sam Polk, Dylan Simmons, and Harrington each collected one hit to lead the Crusaders.

-Five RBI Day For Richard Diaz Brings Victory For Concordia Lutheran Baseball Over Victoria West

The Concordia Lutheran Crusaders defeated Victoria West 10-1 on Friday thanks in part to Richard Diaz, who drove in five runners. Diaz drove in runs on a double in the first and a grand slam in the second.

The Crusaders got things started in the first inning when Dylan Simmons doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Concordia scored five runs in the second inning. Concordia’s bats were led by Reece Choate and Diaz, all driving in runs in the frame.

Nick Petro led things off on the hill for Concordia. He allowed five hits and one run over six innings, striking out five.

Diaz led Concordia Lutheran Crusaders Varsity with three hits in three at bats.

 -Concordia Baseball Claims Lead In Fourth Inning To Defeat Victoria East

Concordia Lutheran took the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over Victoria East on Saturday. The game was tied at three with the Crusaders batting in the top of the fourth when Dylan Simmons singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.

Concordia earned the victory despite allowing Victoria East to score three runs in the first inning. Hudson Oliver, Isaiah Salas, and Jacob Leigh all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Victoria East got on the board in the first inning when Oliver singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Tyler Burnett earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for the Crusaders. He surrendered five runs on six hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Ryan Doerre threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Doerre recorded the last out to earn the save.

Xander Mahan led things off on the hill for Victoria East. He allowed two hits and six runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out one. Dillon Slaughter threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Nick Petro, Simmons, and Richard Diaz all had one hit to lead Concordia Lutheran Crusaders Varsity.

Victoria East tallied six hits on the day. Alex Gutierrez and Oliver each collected multiple hits for Victoria East.
