Tennis Dominant Against Providence in Rainy Monday Doubleheader
Tomball (South Campus) – It took heavy showers to finally slow Concordia Tennis down, as the team continues to be on fire in 2019. After having its previous two matches rained out, the Saders again battled the threat of inclement weather and two tough opponents as they continued district play on Monday with dominant 4-0 victories against St. Pius on both the boys and girls sides. The win was highlighted by a 6-2, 6-2 Aaron Liu victory at #1 boys singles, improving his season record to 7-0 (2-0 in district).
Concordia continued their strong play in a non-district tilt against Providence, winning 6 of 7 overall matches. Play was highlighted by a sweep of both the boys and girls doubles. Belen Micklas & Dristi Shah kicked things off with a commanding 6-2 performance at #1 doubles, quickly followed by a 6-1 rout at #2 by Kate Davis & Stephanie Uriegas, who picked up their team-leading 7th doubles victory of the season. The future of Sader tennis shone bright on this rainy day, as a pair of 1st year doubles duos picked up their first wins together. Freshmen doubles teams of Ellie Waltman & Ava Zindler along with Hallie Ebrey & Eliza Schumacher picked up their first varsity wins playing together at #3 and #4 doubles to round out girls play.
On the boys side, Avi UmaShankar and Mason Barrett continued their successful run at #1 doubles with a strong 6-3 victory, upping their season record to 6-1. Kyle Bedrich and Jack Graves paired together for the first time and notched a solid 6-2 win at #2 doubles. Unfortunately Mother Nature stayed undefeated as the Providence match was cut short by rain, sending a large crowd and both teams scrambling for cover.
You can catch both teams at home next on South Campus this Thursday 2/28 at 4:00 PM in district matches against Duchesne (girls) and St. Thomas (boys).
