“It was really good to have a really tough game before district,” said VYPE Player of the Game Anthony Garza. “It’s nice that we got this defining win.”

It took a quarter to wake up, but once SaderNation got going, it was hard stopping ‘em. Colin Howard put his team on the board with his first of three touchdowns, and Anthony Garza threw three of his four touchdown passes in the second quarter to give the Saders their first lead.

The teams combined for 42 points in the second quarter, and held the lead late. Johnathon Thomas’ two scores were a big part of the scoring, as Kinkaid led 24-21 with 1:43 left. The Falcons’ lead didn’t last because Garza found Garrett Dennis with 14 seconds left.

The scoring continued in the second half. Kendahl Ross gave Concordia its largest lead of the night, with a touchdown run at the 8:17 mark in the third quarter. The Crusaders’ lead bounced between four and 11 for most of the half, but Jason Marsh’s fourth quarter field goal changed it to 7 with five minutes left.

Kinkaid still had time to tie the game, so it turned to Thomas late. He had already scored on a 94-yard kickoff run in the quarter, and followed with a 88-yard reception. The Falcons, who had a hard time stopping Concordia after the opening period, decided to take their chances on a two-point try. They missed, and they never got the ball back.
