The Concordia Lacrosse team earned their first victory of the 2018 season last night as they beat The Village School 10-5. This marks the highest goal total in school history for the Crusaders as the previous highest goal total had previously been 5. In the second year of having a program, the team has continued to improve every game and dominated the Vikings with better ball handling and overall athleticism and moved to 1-7 overall on the season.

Village (0-9) surprised the Crusaders and scored the game’s first goal at 11:42 of the 1st quarter by taking only 18 seconds off the clock. The Crusaders bounced back from a shaky few minutes to start the game when midfielder N. Villarreal (Sr.) took a pass from defensemen N. Barboza (Sr.) and beat the Vikings goalie to knot the score at 1-1 with 9:19 left in Q1. This opened the lid as the Crusaders ended up scoring two more goals in the next two minutes and held a 4-2 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

The Crusaders were led by strong defensive play which helped win the time of possession battle with Village.  At attack, J. Beamesderfer (Jr.), led the team with a hat trick. A trio of midfielders all scored two goals and recorded an assist were Villarreal, M. DeMattia (Jr.) and N. Newton (So.). Sophomore attacker, G. West, scored the other goal for the Crusaders.
In the cage, the duo of Z. Sly (So.) and N. Shappard (Jr.) made a combined 11 saves to keep the Crusader lead of at least 4 goals for most of the game.
Concordia will welcome Foster High School (5-1) for their final home game on Thursday, April 12th at 7 pm. This will be Concordia’s senior night as they honor seven seniors for their commitment to the program.
