On Nov. 4th-6th, Mr. Palomaki and 13 choir students made the trip up to Concordia University, Nebraska, in Seward, Neb., to participate in the National Honor Choir as a part of Musical Arts Day. These 13 students submitted a video audition back in September and ended up being selected into the honor choir which was picked from over 200 auditions.
The group flew to Omaha from Houston on Thursday, Nov. 4th, and Mr. Palomaki showed them some of the scenic sights of Nebraska on their way to Concordia University in Seward. The group stopped at the Holy Family Shrine in Gretna and were able to do some singing in the beautiful glass and wooden chapel. They also stopped by Mahoney State Park and spent some time at the top of an observation tower which overlooked the Platte River.
On Friday, Nov. 5th, the students spent the morning and early afternoon rehearsing with the other 100+ students of the National Honor Choir in preparation for the culminating concert that evening. They had the privilege of singing and learning under the direction of Dr. Kurt von Kampen, as well as with students from the University Chamber Choir and University A Cappella Choir. The concert featured the National Honor Choir along with the A Cappella Choir, and the final piece saw both groups combine. It was a wonderful day of growing as musicians and singers, meeting new people, and having the experience to perform with other talented students.
The trip concluded with flights back to Houston on Saturday, Nov. 6th. The group was blessed with perfect weather the entire time, and many wonderful experiences and memories.
An exciting event will be happening next semester that has ties to Concordia University, and that is when the University A Cappella travels down to Houston as a part of their annual Spring Tour. Our very own Concert Choir will be giving a joint concert with the A Cappella Choir on Tuesday, March 8th at Trinity Klein Lutheran Church, at 7 pm!
The following students were the ones who earned a spot in the National Honor Choir. A big congratulations to them as we are very proud while also very blessed to have such talented young men and women at CLHS. Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow!
