Over the Christmas break, both Concordia Girls and Boys basketball programs were busy with practices, workouts, and games. Over the last two weeks of 2021, both teams faced tough competition, to help them get ready to start district play in January. The term “break” was in name only as the Crusaders were working hard around Texas.
The Boys Varsity and JVA Basketball teams competed in the Houston Private School Classic hosted at Second Baptist. Over the three-day tournament, the teams each had five games, with both teams winning their respective divisions. PG Trey M. (Sr.) returned to the starting line up to help lead the varsity team to a perfect 5-0 record and was honored as the Tournament MVP.
Concordia’s Varsity Boys bested The John Cooper School (98-74), Lutheran South Academy (79-45), Westbury Christian (93-78), PSAT Hoops School (71-63), and Grace Christian Academy (66-47) to claim the title in the 32 team tournament.
The Crusaders sit at 14-7 Overall and have one more non-district tune up on Friday, Jan. 7th at Houston Christian. District games begin on Friday, Jan. 14th with an rivalry match up against St. Thomas Catholic at Concordia at 7:30 pm.
In 2020-2021, Concordia’s Boys Varsity reached the TAPPS 6A State Final Four and the team is poised to make another state run in 2022.

On the girls side, the Lady Crusaders spent the last part of their Christmas break traveling to beautiful Wimberly, TX to compete in their holiday classic. Over the course of their three days, Concordia went 4-2 and claimed 3rd place overall.
The Lady Crusaders games included San Marcos Homeschool (lost 58-63), Mason (won 43-39), Marion (won by default), Cuero (won 44-30), Lampasas (lost 39-55), and Wimberly (won 63-48).
Concordia’s Girls Varsity team is currently 16-8 Overall on the season and begin district play Jan. 5th at St. Pius X Catholic. The team’s next home game will be Friday, Jan. 7th in huge game hosting St. Agnes Academy at 6 pm inside Crusader Gymnasium.
In 2020-2021, the Lady Crusaders reached the TAPPS 6A Elite Eight and look to improve upon that finish by reaching the State Final Four for the first time since 2016.
