In the middle of January, 11 Concordia Lutheran High School (CLHS) choir students traveled down to Willow Meadows Baptist Church in Houston to participate in the TPSMEA Region 3 Choir Weekend.
To earn a spot in one of the two choirs, students from private schools in Houston, San Antonio, and Austin communities had to record and submit two audio recordings in October 2022, and then wait to see if they would end up being ranked high enough in the region round of judging. The TPSMEA All-State Choir process has two stages, with the Region round being the first.
To make the Region Mixed Choir, students needed to end up being ranked in the top 16 of their voice parts after the region round of judging. To make the Region Treble Choir, students needed to end up being ranked in spots 17-37 for the soprano and alto sections.
Two of our students deserve to be recognized for outstanding achievements – Ephraim I. (Sr.) ended up being ranked the 2nd overall Tenor 2, and Lauryn G. (Sr.) ended up being ranked the 3rd overall Alto 1 after the region round of judging! This is a small example of the wonderful talent that we have been blessed with at Concordia.
The students were in rehearsals all of Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, and then gave a culminating concert Saturday afternoon at 4pm. The Mixed Choir was under the direction of Dr. Gary Seighman, who is the Director of Choral Activities at Trinity University in San Antonio, while the Treble Choir was under the direction of Concordia’s own Mr. Michael Palomaki.
The nine students that earned a spot in the Region Mixed Choir were:
- Rebecca K. (Jr.) – Soprano 1
- Marley W. (Fr.) – Soprano 1
- Selena L. (So.) – Soprano 2
- Lauryn G. (Sr.) – Alto 1
- Melissa O. (Jr.) – Alto 1
- Ella R. (Fr.) – Alto 1
- Ephraim I. (Sr.) – Tenor 2
- Lucas W.-H. (So.) – Bass 1
- Evan K. (Sr.) – Bass 2
The two students that earned a spot in the Region Treble Choir were:
- Kendall M. (So.) – Soprano 1
- Della W. (Fr.) – Soprano 1
Congratulations to these talented singers on this wonderful accomplishment! Praise God from Whom ALL Blessings Flow!
