In the middle of February, several members of Concordia’s Shotgun Team traveled to San Antonio to compete in the annual San Antonio Livestock Show Junior Shootout. The Crusaders competed against over 1,000 other high school shooters from Texas and did very well.
Noah Calub ’25 performed exceptionally well in San Antonio competing in the Open Boys FFA competition (American Trap, Doubles Trap, and American Sporting), beating out 322 boys from all over the state to claim 5th place:
- His best showing was placing 3rd overall in the Doubles Trap Open FFA Boys competition, where he received a $1000 scholarship, belt buckles, and ammo for his finish.
- In American Trap, Calub shot an 88 which put him in Lewis Class B finals where he shot against 32 individuals from all age groups and divisions. He shot his way into the top five and was able to shoot the next day in an intense shoot off, where he also ended up 3rd overall receiving a belt buckle, ammo, and a new shotgun.
- In Sporting Clays, Calub shot 161 to finish 14th.
The Crusaders had four other students make the finals in FFA Open Boys Sporting Clays discipline which provided them an opportunity to shoot another 100 targets to tack on to their score to make a combined score out of 200:
- Drew Pali ’25 shot a 165 to finish 8th
- Kyle Martin ‘25 shot a 163 to finish 12th
- Carson Miller ‘25 shot a 150 to finish 49th
- Luke Staley ‘27 shot a 136 to finish 60th
In other disciplines, Concordia had a few other top 25 finishes including:
- Luke Staley ’27 finished 22nd out of 191 shooters in Doubles Trap
- Luke Barre ‘27 finished 25th out of 191 shooters in Doubles Trap
High Over All (HOA) is the cumulative score of the three shooting disciplines (Trap, Sporting Clays, and Doubles Trap) events.
- Calub finished as the 27th HOA Over All (4H & FFA) Boys which included 669 competitors
Additionally, two Crusaders also earned top 30 finishes (top 3%) HOA FFA out of 1,000 shooters:
- Martin finished as the 25th HOA FFA Boy
- Miller finished as the 26th HOA FFA Boy
This year San Antonio started team events comprised of three students from each school in each event.
- The Sporting Clays team consisting of Miller, Calub, and Pali ended up 10th combined overall and 2nd in the FFA division
- The Doubles Trap team consisting of Calub, Miller, and James Brill ‘27 ended up 13th combined overall and 3rd in the FFA division
- The Trap team consisting of Miller, Calub, and Pali ended up 6th overall in the FFA division
