Visual and Graphic Arts
“But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter;
we are all the work of your hand.”
Isaiah 64:8
Concordia’s art team has been highly successful in recent years, claiming State Runner-Up in 2022-2023 for the TAPPS Art Championships after finishing in 3rd place for six years in a row! The goal of the art department is to keep students improving in the visual arts. Sometimes, that takes the form of awards and medals, but sometimes is harder to measure and is only seen through subtle changes as they explore in their art mediums. Taking on challenges, visual or otherwise, gives knowledge and experience to put in their toolbox, which in turn, gives more opportunities to learn, grow, and glorify God.
The Visual Arts team participates in the TAPPS Art Championship, the TAPPS Fall Photography competition, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, and other competitions.

Courses Offered:
Art I-IV are curriculum courses within the Art Department. Students can take these courses as in-depth studies in the visual and graphic arts and as preparation for the art competitions.
- Art I is the prerequisite for all other art classes. Students will learn and grow through a foundational and fundamental look at art and design.
- Art II allows students to learn and grow by exploring the principles and elements of art and design at a more advanced level.
- Art III - Pre-AP furthers students understanding of art and design, helps students develop a unique artistic voice, and prepares them for the rigors of AP Art and Design.
- Art IV - AP Art and Design is the opportunity to create a drawing, 2-D design, or 3-D design portfolio to be submitted to College Board for review. Students will use an inquiry-based approach to develop their own sustained investigation in art (and written form) through their own chosen materials, processes, and ideas.
